3-time Olympic medalist Steve Holcomb struggles to find speed in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah - After final runs of training for a pair of four man World Cup bobsled races in Park City this weekend, Steve Holcomb, a triple Olympic medal winner, got out of his sled and with hands on his hips said “How can I be that slow? I’ve been slow all season and cannot figure it out. We took the sled apart and just cannot figure it out. Where we used to always have speed we just are real slow.”

A few minutes later Holcomb, racing in his home town, was on the phone with Bob Cuneo, builder of the two Bo-Dyn Night Train bobsleds. They discussed options.

“We were in a slump like this back in 2013 with the Night Train 1 in St Moritz and we found a bent steering bolt. Overnight, we fixed it and went out and won a bronze medal. So we’ll keep searching. My team is coming along great, our pushes are improving and I know I’m driving the right lines but just slow at the bottom.”

Racing starts Friday at 8 PM EST. The second and deciding run will air live on NBC Universal HD.
